You're welcome! Hey, I have been looking into getting my first dslr Canon camera and was wondering what the up's and down's of the SL1 are from someone who has one. I've been doing a lot of research on it and it all sounds like pretty good stuff for a first time user like me, I think the fact that it does not have a flip out LCD screen might be a little annoying in my case, but that won't be a deal breaker in buying it. I am a nature/wildlife photographer so I am hoping there aren't any significant delay's when it come's to start up time, or in between shots when shooting something like birds or other animals that may quickly take off. I am also greatly into Macro and wonder what the SL1's capabilities are in that area, or if I will need to look into getting a lens specifically for that alone.

Thank you in advance for your time with these questions, I'm asking you because I've looked at the picture's you've been taking with the SL1 and really like the results!

Your work is very good, keep it up! ;)
It definitely does not have a quick fps, so keep that in mind. It shoots 4 frames per second and I sometimes miss what I'm trying to capture. It's definitely a small camera and I really like it. The delay between turning it on and it ready to shoot is about a second. The macro capabilities depend on the lens. So yes, if you want a dedicated lens for macro and better stuff than my macro, buy a lens, but an easy way to get macro pictures is to set the aperture you want and then take off the lens and reverse it. if you hold the lens backwards you can get some really good macro photography, it might just be a bit blurry in a circular motion. To focus using this method you have to move the camera back and forth to get the pictures.

Overall it is a very nice travel camera. I really love it and I can definitely get really good pictures out of it. The best way to see if you like it is to go to a best buy or something and test it out for yourself.

Thanks for asking and thanks for the complement! :D
If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer. And I hope I answered all your questions!
Thanks for your review, I did go to best buy at one point to check it out, and of course, the SL1 was the only one NOT working at the time! :P

4 frames per second would actually be a huge difference from what I currently have to deal with, so thanks for the info.

I don't know if i'd try flipping the lens for macro, all the things I would be taking macro pictures of would be outside and I wouldn't want to expose the lens to the elements like that. I'll probably just save up some more for a nice macro lens instead.

Mostly I really want to upgrade from my Canon SX30 IS point and shoot to a dslr that I can be sure will be faster at focusing and shooting. With it being my first dslr camera and having a budget of under a thousand dollars, I don't have a lot to choose from, and it would be good for me to get an entry level so I can learn how to use it.

I plan on buying the bundle off the Canon website:
EOS Rebel SL1 EF-S 18-55 IS STM Lens Kit with EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM

Do you have either of the lenses in this kit? and how much do you like them?

Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions! :)
